Guide · Umrah packages

Understand Umrah packages before you compare them.

What a package usually includes, how the common types differ, and the questions that reveal whether a price is genuinely good — before you commit to anything.

What an Umrah package usually includes

Packages bundle the main parts of the journey, but the details vary more than the headline price suggests. Typical inclusions are:

  • Flights — check the airline, stops, baggage allowance and whether dates are fixed or flexible.
  • Accommodation — the single biggest driver of price. Ask for the hotel name and its distance to the Haram in metres, not star ratings alone.
  • Visa handling — many providers arrange the Umrah visa; confirm this is through official channels.
  • Ground transport — airport transfers and intercity travel between Makkah and Madinah, shared or private.
  • Ziyarat and guidance — guided visits to historical sites; some packages include a religious guide.
  • Meals — often breakfast only; full board changes the price meaningfully.

The common package types

Budget or economy packages trade distance and flexibility for price — hotels further from the Haram, shared transport, fixed group dates. Standard packages narrow the distance and add comfort. Luxury packages centre on the closest hotels, premium airlines and private transfers. Beyond comfort tiers, group packages move on a shared itinerary with set dates, while private or family packages let you choose dates and pace at a higher price. None of these labels is regulated — always read the actual inclusions.

How to compare packages honestly

Two packages at the same price can be very different journeys. Compare on:

  • Hotel distance, named — "close to Haram" is not a measurement; metres and a hotel name are.
  • Total price per person — including visa fees, taxes and transport, not the "from" price.
  • Flight quality — direct versus one-stop, arrival airport (Jeddah or Madinah) and baggage.
  • What's excluded — meals, ziyarat, tips and city-tax style charges are common surprises.
  • Cancellation and payment terms — in writing, before any payment.
  • Provider licensing — ask how the provider is licensed or approved in your country and for Saudi arrangements.

Be cautious of prices far below the market, pressure to pay immediately in cash or by transfer to a personal account, and any package that cannot name its hotels.
